PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- -
The Friars will play their season opener at home on Friday, October 12 against Sacred Heart at Schneider Arena. Providence then will play three consecutive road contests against 2012 NCAA Tournament participants (Boston University on Oct. 13 and Miami on Oct. 19-20). The Friars will complete the month of October with back-to-back home games versus Maine (Oct. 26-27).
The 2012-13 slate features 27 Hockey East games and seven non-conference contests. Among the league games are two home matchups against defending national champion, Boston College at Schneider Arena (Dec. 7 and Mar. 2). In addition to Sacred Heart and Miami, Providence will play non-conference foes Quinnipiac (at home Nov. 20), Brown (away on Nov. 24 - Mayor’s Cup) and Minnesota State (away on Jan. 4-5).
During the 2011-12 season, the Friars earned their first trip to the Hockey East Semifinals since 2001. Providence defeated No. 2 seed UMass Lowell in a best-of-three quarterfinal series and became the first No. 7 seed to ever win a Hockey East Quarterfinal series in the 28-year history of the league. In his first season at Providence, Leaman guided the program to 14 victories, the most wins by a Friar team since 2007-08. Among those wins, was a two-game weekend sweep on then No. 1 nationally ranked Merrimack on December 3-4.
