The University of Maine (27-7-5, 13-7-4) will look to keep a 13-game undefeated streak alive (12-0-1) when it takes on the University of North Dakota (29-8-5, 17-6-5) Thursday in the first of two NCAA Frozen Four semifinal matchups. The streaking Bears will also be trying to extend their undefeated streak against non-Hockey East opponents. UMaine, 18-0-3 during this streak, has not lost to a non-Hockey East foe since Feb. 28, 1998, when Nebraska-Omaha defeated the Black Bears 4-3. The Fighting Sioux are also a hot team, only losing one of its last 15 games (11-1-3). North Dakota advanced to the semifinal round of the tournament after defeating Niagara 4-1. The Fighting Sioux offense is led by Hobey Baker Finalist Jeff Panzer's 63 points (19-44-63), and WCHA leading goal scorer Lee Goren (32-28-60). Defensively, goaltender Karl Goehring led all WCHA goalies in save percentage, .924, and goals-against average, 1.95, but Andy Kollar has had to carry UND in the post season, after Goehring suffered a concussion in the opening round of the WCHA playoffs. Kollar is the WCHA's top goalie in winning percentage, .821 (11-2-1), and is undefeated in the post season (3-0-0).
SERIES RECORD/LAST MEETING
UMaine trails North Dakota 2-6-0 in the all-time series between the two schools. UMaine has never faced UND in a post-season game. North Dakota defeated UMaine 8-6, Jan. 4, 1988 in their last meeting.
Head Coach Shawn Walsh
Walsh, a former National Coach of the year, is in his 16th season with the UMaine team. He is one of only two coaches to have been a member of Hockey East since its infancy. In his career, he has led UMaine to two Division I National Championships, one in the 1992-93 season and the other last season. He ranks 26th all-time and 11th among active coaches in wins (379). Walsh is a 1978 graduate of Bowling Green State University, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in education. Walsh is 379-202-37 in his career.

BACK TO THE FUTURE
The Black Bears played in the last Frozen Four to be hosted by the Providence Civic Center in 1995. UMaine defeated Michigan in triple overtime 4-3 in its semifinal game, but lost to rival Boston University in the final 6-2.
LEGER IS HUMANITARIAN FINALIST
Senior Jim Leger, is one of five finalist for the fifth annual College Hockey Humanitarian Award. The College Hockey Humanitarian Award is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen, and will be presented at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 7, at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence as part of the festivities surrounding the NCAA's Frozen Four.
YEATS IS HAVING RECORD SEASON
Sophomore goaltender Matt Yeats earned his first victory in goal in his first NCAA Tournament start in goal when he backstopped UMaine's 5-2 victory over Michigan. Yeats' winning percentage of .759 (20-5-4) is sixth nationally. The All-Hockey East Tournament Team selection is already on UMaine's single-season record list in all four major goaltending categories. He is second in single-season save percentage, .910, tied with last year's NCAA Tournament MVP Alfie Michaud, and only trails Garth Snow, .915, who backstopped UMaine's 1993 national championship team. Yeats is fifth in goals against average, 2.62, and seventh in saves, 774, and victories, 20. He set a Hockey East quarterfinals record when he stopped 19 Friar shots in the third period of UMaine's second victory over Providence. The 19 saves are the most saves made in a period of a HEA quarterfinal game. The first-year goalie has not lost since a 1-0 defeat at UNH, Feb. 6, posting a 11-0-1 record down the stretch.
GUITE IS NATIONS TOP POWER-PLAY SCORER

FRESHMEN POURING ON POINTS
Freshmen figured in all but one goal, an empty net unassisted goal, in UMaine's 5-2 defeat of Michigan in the East Regional. Six freshmen have seen playing time in UMaine's post season. Tom Reimann is tied with Niko Dimitrakos and Guite for the team lead with six points in five post-season games (1-5-6). Chris Heisten (3-1-4), Martin Kariya (0-4-4) and Cliff Loya (0-4-4), leads all UMaine defensemen in points, are all among team leaders with four-points apiece in post season play.
