Boston College Defeats Ohio State, 1-0, In Game Two Of 2003 NCAA East Region Hockey Action
March 29, 2003 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Boston College men's ice hockey team defeated Ohio State University, 1-0, in first-round action of the 2003 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey East Regional at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. With the victory, the Eagles (24-10-4) advance to the East Regional Championship game where they will face top-seeded Cornell University on Sunday, March 30th at 12 noon. Boston College scored the only goal of the game at 5:56 of the first period when Tony Voce notched a short-handed tally. Voce received a pass from teammate J.D. Forrest at center ice and skated in ahead of one Ohio State defender before snapping a wrist shot high over the glove of the Buckeyes' goaltender, Mike Betz. Ohio State (25-13-5) had quality chances to tie the score but BC's Matti Kaltiainen stopped all 26 shots he faced. The Buckeyes actually outshot the Eagles, 26-21, but could not solve the BC netminder. The winner of Sunday's East Regional Championship game will advance to next weekend's Frozen Four in Buffalo, N.Y.
