BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Providence College men's hockey team practiced at the Webster Bank Arena on Thursday afternoon and also participated in media day ahead of tomorrow's NCAA Tournament first round game versus Quinnipiac.

The Friars (21-10-6), who are returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001, are seeded third and will take on second-seeded Quinnipiac (24-9-6) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28. It will mark the first time Providence and Quinnipiac will meet during post-season play and the game will be televised on ESPNU. It will also be available on WatchESPN and the WatchESPN app.

Prior to the team's afternoon practice, several Friars met with the ESPN broadcast team of John Buccigross and Barry Melrose. After practice, Head Coach Nate Leaman, sophomore goaltender Jon Gillies (South Portland, Maine), junior forward Ross Mauermann (Janesville, Wis.) and senior forward Derek Army (North Kingstown, R.I.) took part in a press conference.

Providence has been placed in the East Regional, along with top-seeded Union and Hockey East opponent Vermont, who will play in the first game of the day at 2:00 p.m. The winner of each game will meet the following day (March 29) at 3:00 p.m. in a game that will be televised on ESPN2.
