March 18, 2018

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  The Providence College men’s hockey team has earned an at-large bid to their program-record fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament as the 16-team bracket was unveiled on Sunday (March 18). The Friars will be the No. 2 seed in the East Regional facing off against the No. 3 seeded Clarkson Golden Knights on Friday (March 23) at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn. Puck drop is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be aired on ESPNU and the WatchESPN app.

The Friars are 14-18 all-time in NCAA Tournament games. This will mark the program’s 14th overall NCAA Tournament appearance. Providence played in the Bridgeport, Conn. Regional once in program history. In 2014, the Friars defeated Quinnipiac 4-0 in the first round to advance to the regional final, where they fell 3-1 to Union.

This will mark the first time the Friars have met the Golden Knights in the NCAA Tournament. Providence met Clarkson twice already this season. On Oct. 21 the Friars fell 4-0 in Potsdam, N.Y. In Belfast, Northern Ireland the Golden Knights prevailed 4-2 (Nov. 25). Providence is 16-36-2 all-time against Clarkson.

The winner will advance to the East Regional Final against either Notre Dame or Michigan Tech.

Season ticket holders will have access to purchase tickets on Monday (March 19) at 10 a.m. through Friars.com or by calling (401) 865-GOPC, while non-season ticket holders can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster.
