WAKEFIELD, Mass. -
After scoring a pair of game-winning goals in Providence’s weekend Hockey East Quarterfinals sweep of Maine, senior forward Derek Army (North Kingstown, R.I.)has been named the Warrior Co-Player of the Week by Hockey East (March 17).
On Friday night (March 14), Army scored what proved to be the game winner in Providence’s 3-1 victory over the Black Bears at 6:57 of the first period. Then on Saturday night, Army netted the game-winning goal at 8:31 of the second period as the Friars came back to defeat Maine, 4-2.
Also on Saturday night, Army played in his 146th-consecutive game for the Friars, which tied Tony Zancanaro ’07 for the Providence College consecutive games played record.
Army and the third-seeded Friars will play the fourth-seeded New Hampshire Wildcats in the Hockey East Semifinals at the TD Garden in Boston, Mass. on Friday, March 21. Providence will face the Wildcats in the second game of the night with puck drop set for 8:00 p.m. It will mark the first time in program history that the Friars have returned to the Hockey East semifinals in three consecutive seasons.
