PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (18-15-1, 12-11-1) HOCKEY NOTES:

FRIARS POST 0-1 MARK LAST WEEK... Providence College posted a 0-1 mark last week. On March 7, PC was defeated, 6-5, in overtime by Northeastern at Boston, Mass. PC overcame a two-goal deficit in the final 34 seconds of the game, but NU scored with 1:00 remaining in overtime to earn the win. The Friar goals were scored by senior Jon Cameron (Langley, British Columbia), sophomore Jay Leach (Altamont, N.Y.), sophomore Heath Gordon (Pembroke, Mass.), senior Mike Omicioli (W. Warwick, R.I.) and senior Troy Lake (Edmonton, Alberta). Sophomore goaltender Boyd Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) made 23 saves in the loss.

OMICIOLI MOVES TO 19TH ALL-TIME AT PC... Senior Mike Omicioli (W. Warwick, R.I.) recorded one goal and one assist in PC's 6-5 overtime loss to Northeastern on March 7 and moved into 19th spot all-time in scoring at Providence College with 134 points (47 goals, 87 assists) in 131 games. He also ranks 15th all-time in assists at PC with 87. Omicioli is tied for the team lead in goals (17) and is third in points (46) this season.

NEXT GAMES... PC will play Boston University in a best-of-three HOCKEY EAST Quarterfinal series at Schneider Arena on March 12-14. All games will begin at 7:00 p.m.

PC IN THE HOCKEY EAST TOURNAMENT... PC holds an all-time mark of 19-18-1 in HOCKEY EAST Tournament games. On Friday, the Friars will play their first HOCKEY EAST Tournament game since BC eliminated the Friars from the Quarterfinals last season on March 13, 1998. PC's last win in the HOCKEY EAST Tournament was a 3-2 victory against Maine in the championship game on March 16, 1996. PC has lost its last four games in the HOCKEY EAST Tournament, losing in Quarterfinals in two games to UMass-Lowell in 1997 and BC in 1998.

PC ALL-TIME IN HOCKEY EAST TOURNAMENT GAMES AT SCHNEIDER ARENA... The Friars have posted a 10-4 mark all-time in HOCKEY EAST Tournament games at Schneider Arena. In PC's last HOCKEY EAST Tournament win at Schneider Arena, the Friars defeated Boston College, 4-2, on March 8, 1996 to complete the sweep of the Quarterfinal series. PC's last defeat at Schneider in a HOCKEY EAST Tournament game was a 6-5 loss to UMass-Lowell on March 8, 1997. The loss eliminated the Friars from the Quarterfinals.

PC VS. BU IN THE HOCKEY EAST TOURNAMENT... Since 1984-85, Providence and Boston University have met eight times in the HOCKEY EAST Tournament. PC holds a 5-3 mark against the Terriers in HOCKEY EAST Tournament action, including a 3-0 record in the Quarterfinals. The last time the two teams met in the HOCKEY EAST Tournament, PC defeated BU, 5-4, in the Semifinals on March 15, 1996 at the FleetCenter. PC's last loss to BU in the HOCKEY EAST Tournament was a 3-2 defeat in the Finals on March 18, 1995 at the Boston Garden.

PC VS. BU IN THE HOCKEY EAST TOURNAMENT AT SCHNEIDER ARENA... Providence holds a 1-0 mark against the Terriers at Schneider Arena in HOCKEY EAST Tournament action. In its only HOCKEY EAST Tournament game against the Terriers at Schneider Arena, PC defeated BU, 3-2, in a one-game Quarterfinal series on March 3, 1989.

PROVIDENCE-BOSTON UNIVERSITY SERIES... Friday's game will be the 115th meeting between the two schools. Boston University leads the all-time series 72-35-7. The two teams first met on February 25, 1927 with Boston University defeating Providence, 12-0, at the Rhode Island Auditorium. The loss to the Terriers was one of seven defeats the Friars suffered in their first season of collegiate competition (1-7-0). The Friars' last win against the Terriers was a 6-3 victory at Schneider Arena on Feb. 13, 1999. PC's last loss to Boston University was a 3-2 defeat on Feb. 21, 1998 at Brown Arena.

AT SCHNEIDER ARENA... The Friars have posted 16-18-3 record all-time against BU at Schneider Arena. In PC's last game against BU at Schneider Arena, the Friars defeated the Terriers, 6-3, on Feb. 13, 1999. PC's last loss to the Terriers was a 5-1 defeat on Feb. 20, 1998.

THIS SEASON VS. BOSTON UNIVERSITY... The Friars have posted a 3-0 mark against Boston University this season. On Oct. 30, the Friars defeated Boston University, 5-4, at Schneider Arena. Senior Mike Omicioli led the Friar offense with two goals and one assist. Junior Jason Ialongo, junior Doug Sheppard and senior Jon Coe also scored for the Friars. Sophomore goaltender Boyd Ballard recorded 26 saves in the win. The following night, PC defeated the Terriers, 6-4, at Walter Brown Arena. Junior Jerry Keefe recorded his first career hat trick and added two assists to pace the offense. Junior Fernando Pisani netted two goals and junior Nick Lent added one goal for the Friars. Ballard registered 29 stops in net. On Feb. 13, PC earned its third win of the season against the Terriers with a 6-3 victory at Schneider Arena. Sheppard and Mike Omicioli led the offense with two goals each. Lent and senior Troy Lake also scored for the Friars. Ballard made 25 saves in the win.
