Men’s Hockey to Host Maine in the Hockey East Quarterfinals

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After securing a bye to begin the Hockey East Tournament, the third-seeded Providence College men’s hockey team (20-10-4) will host the sixth-seeded University of Maine Black Bears (18-14-4) beginning Friday night (March 9) at Schneider Arena in a best-of-three series. All games, including a game three if necessary, will begin at 7 p.m.

The teams will meet in the postseason for the first time since the 2014 Quarterfinals, where the Friars claimed a two-game sweep over the Black Bears at Schneider Arena. Overall, Providence is 7-5 all-time against Maine in the postseason and is currently unbeaten in 16 games against the Black Bears (15-0-1), winning 12-consecutive games.

Maine advanced to the quarterfinal round after a two-game sweep over New Hampshire this weekend.

The winner of the best-of-three series will advance to the Hockey East Semifinals at the TD Garden in Boston on March 16. The Hockey East Championship Game will be played at the TD Garden on March 17 at 7 p.m.
