PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

Hockey East released the Providence College men's hockey All-Decade Team on Saturday, February 27 as voted on by fans at HockeyEastOnline.com and sponsored by Torpso Hockey. The 12-member team includes two current Friars.

The All-Decade team features forwards Matt Bergland, Jon DiSalvatore, Peter Fregoe, Fernando Pisani, Devin Rask, Jon Rheault; defensemen Jay Leach, Matt Taormina, Cody Wild and Stephen Wood; goaltenders Alex Beaudry and Nolan Schaefer.

Matt Bergland (2008 - Present) - In only his sophomore year, Bergland has already played in a total of 65 games and has notched 20 goals, 28 assists and 48 points. In his freshman year, he played all 34 games and finished first on the team in points (27), assists (17) and tied for first in goals (10). He also led the team with two game-winning goals and had six multiple-point games. Bergland also earned Hockey East Player of the Week Honors on 10/26.

Jon DiSalvatore (1999-03) - DiSalvatore played in 148 games and notched 59 goals, 83 assists and 142 points (18th all-time in Friar history). In 2001-02, he led the Friars in scoring with career-highs of 16 goals, 26 assists and 42 points. He was named Hockey East Offensive Player of the Week on 11/12, Hockey East Player of the Month for January and was the Lou Lamoriello Award winner as team MVP. In 2000-01, he played for the U.S. World Junior Team where he tied for the team lead in scoring with six goals and three assists for nine points. In his rookie campaign, he was named Hockey East Rookie of the Month for December, earned Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors (1/3) and earned PC's most valuable freshman honor and was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the fourth round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

 

 

Peter Fregoe (1999-03) - Fregoe finished his career at Providence with 147 games played, 68 goals (12th all-time in Friar history), 80 assists and 148 points (15th all-time in Friar history). In 1999-00, he was selected to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, was a two-time Hockey East Player of the Week (11/29, 2/7) and earned Hockey East All-Rookie Team honors.

Fernando Pisani (1996-00) - This Friar great played in a total of 147 games while notching 56 goals, 97 assists (eighth all-time in Friar history) and 153 points (13th all-time in Friar history). In 1998-99, he earned the team's Top Defensive Player Award. Pisani was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the eighth round in the 1996 Entry Draft.

Devin Rask (1999-03) - Rask played in a total of 149 games with 64 goals (15th all-time in Friar history), 87 assists and 151 points (14th all-time in Friar history). Rask earned All-America honors as he tallied 51 points to help the Friars earn an NCAA Tournament berth in 2001. Rask also earned All-New England, All-Hockey East selections and was named the College's Co-Athlete of the Year in 2001.

Jon Rheault (2004-08) - Played 142 in the Friar uniform and notched 56 goals, 49 assists and 105 points (42nd all-time Friar history). In 2006-07, Rheault led the team in scoring with 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists), in game-winning (4) goals and in short-handed tallies (3). He also earned the Lou Lamoriello MVP team award for two straight seasons. As a freshman he was named Hockey East Player of the Week on 2/26, Hockey East Rookie of the Week twice (1/3, 2/28), to the Hockey East All-Academic Team and earned the team's Most Valuable Freshman Award. Rheault was drafted in the fifth round by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2006 NHL Entry Level Draft.

Jay Leach (1997-01) - Leach played in 142 games in the Friar uniform and notched six goals, 46 assists and 52 points. In 2001, Leach was the recipient of the Friar Award as the team's top defenseman, named to All-Tournament Team at the RPI Tournament and earned Hockey East Academic All-Star honors. In 1997-98, Leach played for the U.S. World Junior Team. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 1998 Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils.

Matt Taormina (2005-09) - Taormina played in 141 games while notching 20 goals, 45 assists and 65 points as a Friar. He was selected to the All-New England Second Team as well as the All-Hockey East Second Team in 2008. Taormina also shared the team's Lou Lamoriello Most Valuable Player Award and was Named Hockey East Player of the Week twice (11/12 & 2/4).

Cody Wild (2005-08) - Wild played 100 games in a Friar uniform and notched 16 goals, 41 assists and 57 points. In 2007-08, Wild was the top scoring defenseman for the second consecutive season and earned Hockey East Honorable Mention recognition. As a freshman, he was a Hockey East All-Rookie Team selection in 2005-06, the runner-up for Hockey East Rookie of the Year and earned the team's Most Valuable Freshman Award. Wild was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the fifth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Level Draft.

Stephen Wood (2000-04) - Wood was named All-American, a First Team All-Hockey East selection, an All-New England selection and a Walter Brown finalist. Wood ranks eighth all-time in scoring among PC defensemen with 88 career points (28 goals, 60 assists).

Alex Beaudry (2009-Present) - Beaudry has played in 46 games in less than two years. He has notched a total of 784 saves and a .902 save percentage last. Beaudry recorded back-to-back 40-plus save performances in a win at UMass and a tie at Maine to become the first PC goalie to do so since 2002. He earned back-to-back Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors in 2008-09. In 2009-10, Beaudry earned the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month in October and ranks eighth all-time in PC's single season saves list with 828.

Nolan Schaefer (1999-03) - Schaefer is Providence's all-time leader with 2,848 career saves and ranks fourth all-time at PC with a career 2.98 goal against average (fourth all-time in Friar history). In 2001, Schaefer earned All-America accolades when helping the team earn an NCAA Tournament berth. In the same year, Schaefer also was a Second Team All-Hockey East Selection in 2000-01, tied for the school's record for most shutouts (three) in one season and was named the team's top defensive player three of his four years at Providence.
