PC junior goaltender Nolan Schaefer stopped 70 of 74 Maine shots last weekend and was named the HOCKEY EAST Defensive Player of the Week.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's ice hockey junior goaltender Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Sask.) was named the HOCKEY EAST Defensive Player of the Week for backstopping the Friars to a 0-1-1 weekend with Maine.

Schaefer made 26 saves on Friday, February 15 as Maine defeated PC, 1-0. On Saturday, February 16, Schaefer tied his career-high with 44 saves in a 3-3 overtime tie. On the weekend, Schaefer stopped 70 of 74 shots.

For the year, Schaefer has posted 3.23 goals against average, a .903 save percentage and an 11-14-5 record. The Friars are 13-15-5 overall and 8-6-4 in HOCKEY EAST play.

Providence plays a home-and-home series with Boston University this weekend, playing at Walter Brown Arena on Friday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. and then playing at Schneider Arena on Saturday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m.
