MacNevin Named Defensive Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College junior defenseman Josh MacNevin of West Lethbridge, Alberta was named HOCKEY EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, January 18.

MacNevin received his Defensive Player of the Week honor after helping the Friars post a 3-0 mark last week. In addition to helping hold the opponents to just five goals in the three games, MacNevin registered five points (one goal, four assists) last week. On Jan. 12, he assisted on all three Friar goals in a 3-2 win against cross-town rival Brown University in the annual Mayor's Cup game. On Jan. 15, MacNevin recorded one goal and one assist in PC's 8-1 victory against UMass-Amherst. The two-point effort was his sixth multiple-point game this season.

MacNevin is third on the team in assists (18) and is tied for fourth in scoring (20 points). He has notched two or more points in five of the last seven games.

A 1996 fourth-round draft pick of the New Jersey Devils, MacNevin has 53 points (12 goals, 41 assists) in 82 career games.

He is the son of Neil and Mary MacNevin. Prior to playing for Providence, MacNevin played for the Vernon Vipers of the BCJHL.

Providence (12-9) will return to action on Friday, Jan. 22 at Boston College at 7:00 p.m.
