Hayden Hawkey Named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week

Jan. 15, 2018

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the third time this season, Providence College goaltender Hayden Hawkey (Parker, Colo.) was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week in an announcement made by the Hockey East Association on Monday (Jan. 15).

Hawkey led the Friars to an unbeaten weekend road trip through Boston (1-0-1), stopping 19-of-20 shots in a 4-1 win at Boston College on Friday before turning away 31-of-33 shots in a 2-2 tie at Boston University on Saturday. In six games since the holiday break, Hawkey is 5-0-1 with a 1.01 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage. The five wins over that span leads all NCAA goaltenders in that category.

The Friars are back in action on Thursday night (Jan. 18) with a Hockey East battle against UConn at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
