PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The NBC Sports Network has announced that the Providence men's hockey game at UMass Lowell on Thursday, Jan. 17 has been added to its slate of nationally-televised college hockey games. Thursday’s game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The RiverHawks and Friars will meet for the first time this season and NBC Sports will broadcast the game live from UMass Lowell’s Tsongas Center. Last season, the teams played six times including three regular season Hockey East games and a three-game Hockey East quarterfinal series.
UMass Lowell bested the Friars in the regular season, 2-0-1. Then in the Hockey East Quarterfinals, the Friars became the first No. 7 seed to win a Hockey East Quarterfinal series in the 28-year history of the league. With the series win over the RiverHawks, 2-1-0, the Friars advanced to the Hockey East semifinals for the first time since 2001.
Providence is now slated to appear on television at least 13 times this season including nationally televised games at Umass Lowell (Jan. 17) and at New Hampshire (Feb. 8).
This weekend, the Friars will play at UMass on Friday, Jan. 11 and then host the Minutemen on Saturday, Jan. 12. Both games are slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
