Providence Downs Yale, 5-2
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College defeated Yale University, 5-2, on Friday, Nov. 28 in men's hockey action at PC's Schneider Arena. PC sophomore Fernando Pisani led the Friar offense with two goals and one assist.
In a closely played first period, Providence College took the first lead of the game when junior Jon Cameron scored in a power-play situation at 8:53. Yale evened the game with 52 seconds remaining in the period as freshman Adam Sauve broke in and beat PC netminder Mark Kane for his first collegiate tally.
Junior Troy Lake gave PC a 2-1 lead as he poked in a rebound at 2:17 of the second period. Pisani beat Yale goaltender Alex Westlund with a backhander at 12:31 to put the Friars up by two goals.
Pisani notched his second goal of the game during a five on three power-play at 1:34 of the third period. PC increased its lead to 5-1 at the 3:32 mark of the third when junior Jon Coe wristed in his third goal of the season. Yale junior John Chyz tallied the final goal of the game as he one-timed a pass from Geoff Kufta on a power play at the 8:35 mark of the third.
Kane made 27 stops for the Friars and earned his second win of the season. Westlund and sophomore Trevor Hanger combined recorded 19 saves for the Bulldogs.
With the win Providence raised its record to 8-3, while Yale fell to 6-2 overall.
Providence College will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 30 against Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. at 5:00 p.m.
