PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars upset the seventh-ranked Colorado College Tigers, 5-4, in men's hockey action on Friday, November 26 at PC's Schneider Arena. PC sophomore Drew Omicioli tallied two goals to lead the Friar offense.

Colorado College had the Friar defense spinning in the opening seconds of the game as Noah Clarke finished off a two-on-one break in to put the Tigers up 1-0 just 24 seconds into the game. Despite being outshot, 17-8, in the first period, the Friars led 2-1 after 20 minutes on goals by Jon DiSalvatore at 8:20 and Fernando Pisani at 19:38. DiSalvatore scored an unassisted short handed goal after stealing the puck at center ice and beating CC goaltender Colin Zulianello with a quick fake to his backhand. Pisani notched the Friars' second goal on the power-play with a blast from the left point.

The Friar special teams play continued to haunt the Tigers when Omicioli blasted in a slap shot from the top of the right circle for the team's second short-handed tally of the night at 7:52 of the second period. After PC's third goal, Zulianello was replaced in the Colorado net by Jeff Sanger. Omicioli struck again to put the Friars up 4-1 with his second goal of the period at 16:27. Jesse Heerema scored on a wrap around play with 1:39 remaining in the second period to cut PC's lead to 4-2.

Colorado College refused to give in and continued to press the Friars in the third. CC's Tom Preissing made it a one-goal game with his second goal of the season at the 3:07 mark of the third period. However, Mike Lucci was left all alone in the slot and connected on a wrist shot for what would prove to be the game winning goal at 13:53. The Tigers' Justin Morrison made the game close when he knocked in a rebound at 17:14 to bring CC within one goal, 5-4. However, the PC defense held on for its sixth win of the season and fourth straight.

PC netminder Nolan Schaefer recorded 36 saves in the victory. Zulianello and Sanger combined for 16 stops for the Tigers.

With the win, Providence raised its record to 6-6 overall, while Colorado College fell to 8-4.
