Men's Hockey Ties Colorado College, 1-1

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The 8th-ranked Providence College Friars skated to a 1-1 tie with the 9th-ranked Colorado College Tigers, in college hockey action, on Friday, November 24, 2000 at the Colorado Springs World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado Neither team was able to produce much offense in the opening 20 minutes of play as the Tigers out shot the Friars, 16-6, in the first period. The second period was a mirror image of the first, as once again, neither team was able to produce any offense. The only difference in the second 20 minutes was the Friars out shooting Colorado College, 12-9. Friar goaltender Nolan Schaefer and Tiger netminder Colin Zulianello stopped 18 and 25 shots, respectively in the first two periods of play. The Friars ended the 40 minutes of scoreless hockey early in the third. PC took a 1-0 lead at 00:22 mark of the third period, when J.J. Picinic tallied his eighth goal of the season, a power-play goal, assisted by Marc Suderman. Suderman stole the puck in the PC offensivez one and fired a slapshot that deflected off of Zulianello's pads, Picnic collected the rebound and beat the Tiger netminder for the game's first goal Colorado tied the game at the 8:46 mark of the third on a Joe Cullen goal. The Tigers Colin Stuart blasted a shot off of Schaefer's pads, the rebound bounced in front of the net. Cullen skated in front of the net and lifted the rebound past Schaefer, Brent Vorhees added and assist for Colorado College. The Friars' skated the majority of the overtime period on the power play, after CC's Alex Kim was called for a five minute major, checking from behind at 18:24 of the third. Despite the man advantage, the Friars were not able to break the scoreless tie and the game ended, 1-1. Zulianello finished with 29 saves while Schaefer stopped 37 shots for the Friars. With the tie, Providence record stands at 7-2-2, while Colorado College's record is now 7-3-1. The Friars will return to action on Saturday, November 25, at the University of Denver at 9:05 p.m.(EST)
