DURHAM, N.H. -- The Providence College men's hockey team was defeated by the seventh-ranked New Hampshire Wildcats, 3-2, on Friday, November 12 at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.

The Friars opened the scoring at 4:40 mark of the first period when sophomore Bill McCreary (Howell, Mich.) scored his fifth goal of the season. While short handed, McCreary took a pass from classmate Tony Zancanaro (Trenton, Mich.) and skated in on a breakaway before lifting a wrist past UNH goalie Jeff Pietrasiak. Junior James Pemberton (Cumberland, R.I.) also assisted on the goal. Moments later the Friars struck again to increase their lead to 2-0 at 6:37 as junior Torry Gajda (Westfield, Mass.) forced a turnover in the neutral zone. Senior Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.) was able to collect the loose puck and set up sophomore Jamie Carroll (Andover, Conn.), whose high wrist shot hit the post and into the net. Friar freshman goalie Tyler Sims (Forth Worth, Texas) stopped all 10 UNH shots, as the Wildcats held a 10-8 shot advantage in the period.

The Wildcats cut the lead to 2-1 at 6:08 of the second period when Preston Callander fired a wrist shot past Sims from in close on the power play. The Wildcats tied the game early in the third period as Jacob Micflikier took advantage of a loose puck in front of the PC and scored on a wrist shot at 3:55. The Wildcats scored the game winner at 12:27 as Callander took a pass from Sean Collins and beat Sims with a low shot at 12:27. Sims finished with 37 saves and earned the game's second star, while Pietrasiak had 20 stops.

The Friars will return to action on Sunday, November 14 against Northeastern at 2:00 p.m.
