CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College scored four times in the first period en route to a 5-1 win over Providence College Saturday night in the second game of a best-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal series at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass. With the win, the Eagles (19-11-8) advance to the Hockey East Championship which begins on Friday, March 21 at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, Mass. The Friars finish the season with a 14-17-5 overall record.

Similar to game one last night, the Eagles scored two quick goals to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Ben Smith re-directed a shot past PC goalie Ryan Simpson at 1:26, while Benn Ferriero tallied his 15th of the season at 2:18. The Eagles added two more goals in the first period and led 4-0. Dan Bertram scored from the top of the right circle at 8:36 and Nathan Gerbe converted a penalty shot at 14:35. It marked the first penalty shot against PC since 2001.

The Friars pulled to within 4-1 early in the second period as freshman Ian O'Connor scored off a rebound for his fifth goal of the season at 2:48. Junior Matt Taormina and senior Jon Rheault assisted on the goal. Brian Gibbons capped off the scoring at 10:55 of the third period with his 11th goal of the season.

The Friars finished with a 37-20 shot advantage, including, 31-5 in the final two periods. BC goalie John Muse finished with 36 stops, while Simpson made 15 saves in his first start of the season.
