BOSTON, MASS. -- The Providence College men's hockey team was defeated at #5-ranked Boston University, 4-2, ending the Friars' season as the Friars were defeated in the second game of the best-of-three HOCKEY EAST quarterfinal series. Providence completes the season with a 13-20-5 overall record while the Terriers advance to the FleetCenter and the HOCKEY EAST final four.

The Friars scored the game's first goal when freshman center David Carpentier (Faribault, Minn.) scored the first collegiate goal of his career at 12:33. Sophomore defenseman Stephen Wood (Sudbury, Mass.) started the play, carrying the puck to his blueline where he fired a cross-ice pass to senior forward Marc Suderman (Regina, Sask.). Suderman carried the puck into the BU zone, to the right of Terrier goaltender Sean Fields. Suderman passed to Carpentier, who was streaking to the left post and he one-timed a shot before Fields could slide to cover the open part of the net.

The second period began with the Terriers tying the contest at 1-1 just 2:38 into the period. Brian Collins tallied for BU, receiving a feed from Mike Pandolfo and Mark Mullen, who had cycled the puck behind the net before feeding Collins for the quick wrister. Providence regained the lead just over two minutes later when PC junior Devin Rask (Parkside, Sask.) carried the puck into the BU zone where he fed senior Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) behind the goal. Fregoe found junior co-captain Jon DiSalvatore (South Windsor, Conn.) open in front of the goal and fed him for a quick wrist shot that beat Fields. DiSalvatore's first goal of the series was on the power play for the Friars. The Terriers were able to tie the contest before the final second ticked off - after the two teams were whistled for a total of 11 penalties in the period - as Jack Baker beat Schaefer to the far post with 39.6 seconds left in the period.

Boston University took their first lead of the game just 1:28 into the third period when Kenny Magowan tallied from Gregg Johnson and Freddy Meyer. Schaefer stopped the initial shot from Johnson, but when he couldn't cover the rebound, Magowan was able to jam the puck through Schaefer's pads. Magowan gave the Terriers a two-goal lead at 6:53 when he was able to bang in a loose puck in front of the Providence goal. Frantisek Skladany and Johnson assisted on the score.

Schaefer recorded his sixth game this season with more than 40 saves, completing the game by tying his career-high with 44 saves. Fields made 25 in the win.
