Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 19th-ranked Providence College men's hockey team and No. 8 Boston College played to a 2-2 overtime tie Saturday night in a Hockey East game at Schneider Arena.

The Friars (14-13-5, 11-9-5 Hockey East) struck first at 9:07 of the first period as sophomore Mark Fayne (Bourne, Mass.) fired a slap shot from inside the blue line that eluded BC goalie John Muse who was screened in front. It marked Fayne's second goal of the season. The Eagles (16-10-8, 10-8-7 Hockey East) responded with two goals in a 2:21 span to take a 2-1 lead after one period. Benn Ferriero scored at 13:27, while Nathan Gerbe added his 23rd goal of the season as he was set up by Ben Smith at 15:48.

The Friars evened the score at 2-2 early in the second when Nick Mazzolini (Anchorage, Alaska) scored his seventh of the season while PC was skating on the power play. Mazzolini took a pass down low from Cody Wild (North Providence, R.I.), skated along the goal line and powered a shot past Muse from just outside the goal crease.

PC goalie Tyler Sims (Fort Wayne, Ind.) was strong in net as he finished with 29 saves, including several point-blank stops. Muse also had a solid performance with 34 saves.

The Friars are back in action on Thursday, March 6 when they host Boston University at Schneider Arena.
