BOSTON, Mass. - The Providence College men's hockey team (12-14-4, 10-10-3) and Northeastern (11-14-5, 7-12-4) played to a 2-2 overtime draw Saturday night in a Hockey East game played at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass. It marked the second consecutive night that the two teams skated to a tie after last night's 1-1 game. The Friars recorded a season-high 49 shots, but Northeastern's Chris Rawlings made a season-high 47 stops.
Northeastern scored on the power play at 17:34 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Alex Tuckerman capitalized on a rebound in front after the initial shot from Mike McLaughlin was saved. The Friars evened the game at 1-1 at 2:36 of the second period when freshman Shane Luke (Dauphin, Man.) pounced on a loose puck in front to notch his fifth goal of the season. Junior Chris Rooney (Canton, Mass.) and freshman Stefan Demopoulos (La Mesa, Calif.) assisted on the goal.
Providence took advantage of a five-minute power play to take its first lead of the night (2-1). Sophomore Kevin Hart (Cumberland, Maine) scored on a slap shot from beyond the blue line marking his second goal of the season. Junior Myles Harvey (Orlando, Fla.) and senior goalie Alex Beaudry (Cumberland, Ont.) assisted on the goal. Northeastern's Adam Reid scored off a rush down the right wing at 15:01 to tie the game at 2-2.
The Friars finished with a 49-35 advantage in shots, including a 38-22 edge in the last two periods and overtime. Beaudry also was strong in net for the Friars as he made a season-high 33 saves.
The Friars are back in action at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24 when they host No. 4 Boston College at Schneider Arena.
