ROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 14th-ranked Providence College men's hockey team and No. 4 New Hampshire played to a 1-1 overtime tie Friday night in a Hockey East game at Schneider Arena. The Friars outshot the Wildcats, 53-29, but UNH goalie Kevin Regan made a career high 52 saves.

The Wildcats took advantage of their first power-play opportunity to take a 1-0 lead. PC goalie Tyler Sims (Fort Wayne, Ind.) made a save on a shot by Brad Flaishans, but Danny Dries pounced on the rebound and scored his seventh goal of the season. The Friars held a 20-11 shot advantage in the first period, but were unable to put the puck past Regan.

However, the Friars broke through at 13:39 of the second period as sophomore John Cavanagh (Warwick, R.I.) tallied his fifth goal of the season. Junior John Mori (Westport, Conn.) and freshman Ian O'Connor (Londonderry, N.H.) cycled the puck down the right wing before O'Connor played the puck to the slot to John Cavanagh who fired a high wrist shot by Regan.

John Cavanagh had chance to give PC the lead with 2:39 left in the third period as he was on a partial breakaway, but Regan turned his shot aside. In overtime, Mike Radja also had an opportunity to score the winner when he had a clean breakaway, but his shot went wide with 26 seconds remaining in the extra session. Sims finished with 28 saves for the Friars.

The two teams will close out the home-and-home series tomorrow night at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.
