DURHAM, N.H. -- The third-ranked New Hampshire Wildcats defeated the Providence College Friars, 4-2, in HOCKEY EAST action on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.

The Friars got on the scoreboard first when Fernando Pisani picked up a rebound off Jon Coe's shot and sent it high shot into the net at 4:42 of the first period. The Wildcats quickly tied the game when Ryan Cordiero slid a low shot under PC netmider Boyd Ballard at 6:51 of the first.

After a scoreless second period, UNH took a 2-1 lead when Jason Krog rifled a low shot between Ballard's pads on a power play at 9:49 of the third. The Friars quickly tied the game as Jerry Keefe knocked a rebound out of the air past UNH goaltender Sean Matile at 10:22 of the third. The Wildcats regained the lead on a quirky goal at 16:22 of the third when Jayme Filipowicz shot a puck that bounced over Ballard's stick into the net for what proved to be the game winning goal. Mike Souza added an empty net goal to seal the win for the Wildcats at 19:17 of the third.

With the win, New Hampshire raised its record to 21-4-1 overall and 13-2-1 in HOCKEY EAST, while Providence fell to 13-12 overall and 8-8 in league standings.

Providence returns to action on Friday, Feb. 5 against UMass-Lowell in Lowell, Mass. at 7:00 p.m.
