    Named the Hockey Commissioners' Association (HCA) National Division I Rookie of the Year at the Frozen Four, becoming the program's first National Rookie of the Year ... Also named to the 2013 CCM All-America Second Team (East), as announced by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA), becoming the program's 17th All-American ... He is the first Friar to earn All-America honors since Stephen Wood was named to the Second Team in 2003-04 and the third Friar goalie to be named an All-American, joining Chris Terreri (First Team 1985 & Second Team in 1986) and Nolan Schaefer (Second Team in 2001) ... Gillies went 17-12-6 on the year and posted a Friar record five shutouts ... His five shutouts tied for the third-most in the country ... Finished the year with a 2.08 goals against average, the second best mark in program history for a single season and it ranked 15th nationally ... Posted a .931 save percentage, which ranked ninth in the nation ... He made 992 saves on the year, the fifth-highest single season saves total in the PC record books ... Named a Hockey East First-Team All-Star and selected as the League's Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-Rookie Team ... He was the first ever freshman to be selected as the Hockey East First-Team goaltender and just the third freshman at any position to be named to the first team, joining Hall-of-Fame defenseman Brian Leetch (Boston College) and Hobey Baker winner Paul Kariya (Maine) ... Highlighting Gillies' record-setting five shutouts were 44 saves in a 2-0 win against the University of Massachusetts (1/ 12), 37 saves in a similar showing a month later against then fifth-ranked UNH (2/13), and 31 in a critical 3-0 road win at UMass-Lowell (3/8) on the final weekend of the regular season ... His five shutouts were two more than the previous single season record at Providence and he ranks tied for second on the Friars' career shutouts list ... Made a season-high 48 saves at UML (1/17), which ranks as the seventh-most saves in a game by a Friar goaltender ... Missed three games while capturing the gold medal with Team USA at the 2013 World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia ... He was the 11th Friar to take part in the prestigious event and the first to earn a medal.

    BEFORE PROVIDENCE: Selected by the Calgary Flames (third round - 75th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft ... Played for the Indiana Ice of the USHL for two seasons ... Posted a 31-11-9 record, a 2.77 goals against average, a .915 save percentage and three shutouts during the 2011-12 season ... Led the USHL in a number of categories and was the only goaltender to score a goal ... Holds the Indiana Ice records for most career wins (46), games played (78), shutouts (6) and highest single season save percentange (.915) ...
