Men's Basketball Picked Sixth of 12 Teams In Preseason BIG EAST Coaches' Poll

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's basketball team was picked to finish sixth of 12 schools in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Wednesday, October 27 at the BIG EAST Media Day at Madison Square Garden in New York. Syracuse was picked first in the Conference, followed by defending national champion Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Boston College.

    Providence returns 2004 All-American and BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) from last year's team, which posted a 20-9 mark and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Friars registered an 11-5 record in BIG EAST action last season and finished in third place in the league standings.

    Providence College will open its 2004-05 season with an exhibition game against EA Sports All-Stars on November 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The team will open its regular season against Niagara on Tuesday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the first round of the Preseason NIT at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
