Men's Basketball To Play UConn In An Exhibition Game On Wednesday, Oct. 25 At Mohegan Sun In Uncasville, Conn.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced today (Oct. 17) that the NCAA has granted a waiver for the Providence College men's basketball team to play the University of Connecticut in an exhibition game at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to benefit hurricane victims.

"I am happy that we have this opportunity to help some of the victims that have suffered so much from the devastating effects of the hurricanes that hit last month," Providence College Head Coach Ed Cooley said. "As soon as I reached out to Kevin [Ollie], he was excited to play the game and have his program be involved in this event. We hope that the great fan bases from both schools will come together to support this cause"

The Providence and UConn men's basketball teams are longtime New England and BIG EAST rivals. The two teams have met 72 times with the Huskies holding the all-time lead in the series, 44-28. The two teams first met in 1928 when UConn defeated the Friars 29-21 in Storrs. The last time the Friars and Huskies played, UConn earned a 63-59 win in Storrs on March 9, 2013.
