    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's basketball teams will open the season with the traditional Late Night Madness festivities beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12 in the newly renovated Mullaney Gymnasium on the Providence College campus. It will mark the first basketball event in the renovated Mullaney Gym.

    Second-year Friar Head Coach Ed Cooley and his squad will be introduced to the public at 10:00 p.m. Doors to the event will open at 9:30 p.m. The event is free and fans attending will receive a 2012 Providence College Late Night Madness t-shirt. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as seating is limited.

    Some of the highlights of the night will be a three-point shooting contest and a slam dunk competition featuring members of the men's basketball team. Junior guard Bryce Cotton, who won the 2010 and 2011 slam dunk competitions, will attempt to defend his titles. Once again, former Friar greats will serve as the celebrity judges of the slam dunk competition.

    Friar fans also will get a chance to see newest members of the new team, including freshmen Ricky Ledo, Kris Dunn and Josh Fortune and transfers Tyler Harris and Carson Desrosiers.

    First-year Friar Women's Head Coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl and her team will be introduced during the festivities.
