Former Friar Rob Phelps '94 Brings Students to Visit Providence College

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Former Providence College men's basketball player Rob Phelps '94 recently took a visit to Providence College. Phelps was accompanied by students from Bedford Academy in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he is serves as the dean and the head basketball coach. Phelps has worked at Bedford Academy for nine years, and has been bringing his students to visit Providence for the past six years. Approximately 35-50 students in grades 9-12 have taken part in the visit. "I like to show my kids life outside of the city," Phelps said. "I had a great four years here and I love to show them my school." Phelps played for the Friars from 1992-1994. He helped lead the 1994 team to the program's only BIG EAST title, defeating Georgetown, 74-64, in the Championship game. At Providence, Phelps averaged 19.5 minutes per game, scored 782 points, and grabbed 197 rebounds.
