It was announced last week that the Providence College men's basketball team will open the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament against UMass at 7:30 p.m., on November 15 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The game will be shown live on ESPNU. The tournament will take place from November 15 to 18.

The Friars will join North Carolina State, UNC Asheville, Oklahoma State, Penn State, UMass, Tennessee, and Akron to make up the eight team field for the tournament. This will mark the second time Providence College has participated in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Providence competed in the tournament in 2007 and posted a 2-1 mark, losing in the championship game to Miami.

If Providence defeats UMass, the Friars will play the winner of the NC State vs. Penn State game on Friday, November 16 at 5:00 pm. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN2/ESPNU. If Providence is defeated by UMass, the Friars will play the loser of the NC State/Penn State game on November 16 at 7:30 pm on ESPN3.

The Friars will play a third game in the tournament on Sunday, November 18.

The family-friendly tournament and resort destination of Puerto Rico host the teams to three days of play, practices and immersion into the Puerto Rican culture and landscape. Additional information can be found on the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Web site.
