Former Friar Weyinmi Efejuku Leads Jamaica To Gold Medal At CBC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Former Providence College guard Weyinmi Efejuku (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) led Jamaica to the Gold Medal on July 4 at the Caribbean Basketball Championship at Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. In the championship game, Efejuku scored 16 points in a 65-61 win over the British Virgin Islands. Efejuku led the Jamaican team in scoring at the CBC, averaging 20 points per game while helping his team post a 4-1 mark. Efejuku recorded his best performance in the Semifinals of the CBC as he scored 32 points in a 98-93 overtime win against Cuba on July 3. Efejuku helped the Providence men's basketball team post a 19-14 mark this season, which included a 10-8 record in BIG EAST action. He led the team in scoring, averaging 15.7 points per game (517 points) over 33 games. Efejuku was second on the team in field goal percentage (46.7 percent) and second on the squad in three-point field goal percentage (38.8 percent). In BIG EAST action, Efejuku averaged a team-best 16.4 points per game and shot 41.4 percent from three-point territory. Efejuku finished his career ranked 12th all-time in scoring at Providence with 1,500 points. He is one of only 12 players in the history of the College to score 1,500 or more points.
