Men's Basketball Names Chris Driscoll Assistant Coach

June 25, 2010

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's basketball coach Keno Davis announced today (June 25) that Chris Driscoll has been named assistant coach. Driscoll has served as an assistant coach for the Boston Amateur Basketball Club since 2000. Driscoll replaces Pat Skerry who left last month for an assistant coaching position at the University of Pittsburgh.

In his role with the BABC, Driscoll has coached and developed 52 Division I NCAA players, including former Detroit Piston Will Blalock (Iowa State), All-BIG EAST standout Jeff Adrien (UConn), Phil Pressey (Missouri), Jamal Coombs (UConn) and McDonald's All-Americans Torin Francis (Notre Dame) and Alex Oriakhi (UConn). He also coached current Friars Gerard Coleman and Ron Giplaye. Driscoll helped lead the BABC to eight national championships and compiled a 97-2 mark while serving as the interim head coach.

"We are excited about Chris Driscoll joining our program," Davis said. " I believe he will strengthen our staff on the court and in recruiting."

Driscoll's duties with the BABC included player development and player selection for 14U-17U age groups. He also incorporated the overall team philosophy, ensured all players met NCAA eligibility requirements and coordinated team travel for national and international tournaments.

"Chris has a keen eye for talent and a very strong ability to communicate with student-athletes," National Recruiting Director for Scout.com Dave Telep said. "Chris has coached so many high-level players that this position at Providence is a natural progression for him."

Driscoll also served as director of MARA, a division of Community Teamwork in Lowell, Mass., since 1999. At MARA, he was the director of a goal focused program that provided support and services to at-risk youth through one-on-one mentoring as they worked toward their goal of attending college. Driscoll oversaw fund raising, grant writing, community partnerships and direct mentoring of at-risk youths. He helped raise more than $10 million in grant and scholarship money.

"Chris Driscoll is one of the real up and coming talent evaluators and gifted assistant coaches in the country," Memphis Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace said. "His experience with the famed AAU juggernaut BABC team, energies, recruiting contacts and basketball acumen will be very beneficial to the Friars."

"I've been influenced by some great people in the basketball world, and none more so than Leo Papile," Driscoll said. "At the BABC, effort, execution and toughness are simply non-negotiable and I don't know any other way to approach the game. I can't wait to get to work for Coach Davis with this same approach."

Driscoll also worked with the Lowell School Department from 1998-99 as a Community School coordinator. He launched an inner city community program which met educational, social and recreational needs of the surrounding area. Driscoll began his work with youths at Community Teamwork in Lowell, Mass., where he served as a site supervisor of a city wide after-school program from 1992-97.

Driscoll, a native of Lowell, Mass., graduated from Amhurst University in 1996 with a degree in sports management.
