PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's basketball coach Tim Welsh announced on Wednesday, May 2 that student-athlete Alex Kellogg (Columbus, Ohio) signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September 2007. He is the third player to sign a NLI for the Friars this spring. Kellogg joins forward Jamine Peterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and guard/wing Marshon Brooks (Tucker, Ga.) as members of the PC's freshman class for 2007-08.

Kellogg, the son of CBS-TV college basketball analyst and former NBA star Clark Kellogg, is in his fourth year at St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus. This season, the 6-foot-7-inch, 225-pound forward averaged 18.3 ppg and 8.5 rpg while serving as the team captain. He also shot 53.4 percent from the field. For his efforts, he earned second team all-state honors. He also was named first team all-district and first team all-league. In addition to earning District 10 All-Star honors, Kellogg received MVP honors at the District 10 All-Star game. At St. Francis DeSales, he played for Head Coach Blair Albright and helped lead his team to a 21-4 mark and a trip to the Division II state semifinals in 2007. It marked the second consecutive season that DeSales reached the state semifinals. As a junior, Kellogg averaged 15.8 ppg. The four-year letterwinner scored 1,218 points (12.7 ppg) and grabbed 532 rebounds (5.5 rpg), while shooting 54.7 percent from the field during his career at St. Francis DeSales.

"Alex is an athletic forward with good size and strength," Welsh said. "We believe that Alex has a tremendous upside. He has demonstrated that he can score in transition and he can finish down low. He also handles the ball well for his size. Alex has shown continual improvement the last few seasons. He comes from a great program at St. Francis DeSales High School and he has been well coached by Blair Albright."
