April 26, 2010

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on April 22 that Joe Young of Yates High School in Houston, Texas was one of 20 players in the nation named to the 2010 ESPN RISE All-American First Team. It marks the second All-America honor for Young, as he was named to the 54th Parade All-America High School Boys Basketball Team earlier in the month. Young signed a National Letter of Intent in November to attend Providence College in September 2010.

In March, Young was named Texas Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year and he was named to the 4A TABC All-State Team.

Young led Yates to a 34-0 mark this season and the school's second consecutive Class 4A state title. He earned All-Tournament Team honors at the 2010 Class 4A state championships. Yates, which has won 58 consecutive games, is ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today, the ESPN Rise Top 50 High School Rankings, MaxPreps.com and Rivals.com. The 6-foot-3-inch guard averaged 27.5 points, 4.4 steals, 4.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game this season. Young was named the MVP of the 2009 Class 4A state championship game, the Iolani Prep Classic and the T-Mobile Invitational in Alabama. He helped Yates capture the T-Mobile Invitational this season by scoring 43 points in the championship game, including 24 points in the last five minutes of the second quarter of the game.

Young is ranked No. 99 in the ESPNU Top 100 for 2010 recruits and he is ranked No. 69, according to MaxPreps. He was a McDonald's All-America nominee.
