Makai Ashton-Langford Signs Scholarship Offer To Attend PC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- -- Providence College men’s basketball coach Ed Cooley announced today (April 13) that student--athlete Makai Ashton-Langford (Worcester, Mass.) has signed a scholarship offer to attend Providence College beginning in September 2017. He is one of the top point guards in the nation and is ranked in the top 38 in the country by Scout.com (No. 31), 247 sports.com (No. 32), ESPN.com (No. 36) and Rivals.com (No. 38). He is the highest ranked recruit to commit to the Friars since 2012 (Rick Ledo, No. 21 and Kris Dunn, No. 23). Ashton-Langford, joins forwards Nate Watson and Dajour Dickens (both signed a NLI in the fall) to make up a Friar recruiting class which is ranked No. 29 by ESPN.com and No. 15 by 247sports.

Ashton-Langford, a 6-foot-2-inch, 185-pound point guard attends Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H. where he is coached by Jason Smith. He helped lead Brewster to a 33-0 mark and the National Prep Championship. He is rated as a four-star recruit and he is ranked as the eighth best point guard in the nation by Scout.com and 247 sports.com. In addition, Ashton-Langford is ranked at the No. 10 point guard in the country by ESPN.com. In 2016, he attended Cushing Academy where he averaged 22 points, four rebounds and and six assists per game as he helped his team win the AA New England Prep School Championship. Ashton-Langford played AAU basketball for the Mass Rivals where he was coached by Vin Pastore. His team won 21 consecutive games and captured four tournament titles, including the Uprising Summer Championship in Las Vegas last July. While playing for Mass Rivals on the adidas Gauntlet circuit, Ashton-Langford averaged 15.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
