Men's Basketball Student-Athlete Herbert Hill Signs NLI To Attend Providence College
April 11, 2002 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's basketball coach Tim Welsh announced on April 11 that student-athlete Herbert Hill (Kinston, N.C.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September 2002. Hill will join Donnie McGrath (Westchester, N.Y.) as new players on the 2002-03 Friar roster. Hill, a 6-foot-9-inch, 202-pound power forward, played for head coach Wells Gulledge at Kinston High School in 2001-02. Hill averaged 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocks per game in 2001-02. For his efforts, Hill earned Eastern Carolinas All-Conference accolades. He helped Kinston post a 26-4 mark and reach the Eastern Regionals of the North Carolina Class 3A High School Championships. Hill was one of four seniors who started for Kinston. All four seniors on the Kinston squad will play collegiate basketball next season and will receive grants in aid. "Herbert Hill will be an excellent addition to our team next season," Welsh said. "Herbert's strengths are his rebounding and shot blocking skills. At 6-9, he also has the ability to handle the ball in transition. Herbert has the potential to become a very good player in the BIG EAST."
