Ryan Gomes Named To The Basketball Times All-Northeast Region Team
April 1, 2003 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced last week that Providence College sophomore forward Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) was named to the Basketball Times All-Northeast Region Team. The other members of the All-Northeast Team are Ben Gordon (UConn), Marques Green (St. Bonaventure), Marcus Hatten (St. John's) and Craig Smith (Boston College). Gomes, who also earned Second Team All-BIG EAST, Second Team NABC District 1 and USBWA All-District 1 honors this season, produced impressive numbers this season. He led the Friars to an 18-14 mark and a third-place finish in the BIG EAST East Division. Providence advanced to the second round of the NIT before being losing to Georgetown, 67-58, on March 24. Gomes was the Friars' top scorer (18.4 ppg) and rebounder (9.7 rpg) in 2002-03. He recorded 17 double-doubles in 32 games, including 21 points and 13 rebounds in the team's final game of the season versus Georgetown. He also scored 20 or more points in a game 15 times this season.
