PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on Monday, March 27 that Providence College senior guard Donnie McGrath (Katonah, N.Y.) was named the Rhode Island Men's Basketball Division I Player of the Year by the Rhode Island Basketball Writers. URI's Dawan Robinson also received the honor. It marks the third consecutive year that a Friar has won the award as Ryan Gomes earned it in 2004 and 2005.

McGrath, who also was named All-BIG EAST Second Team and NABC Second Team All-District 1, led the Friars in scoring this season, averaging 15.1 points per game. He also averaged 2.85 three pointers per game for the season, which ranks seventh in the BIG EAST. He finished his career at Providence ranked 17th all-time in scoring with 1,282 points. He also ranks first all-time at PC in three pointers (274), games started (117) and minutes played (4128).

McGrath, a 2002 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, is the son of Tom and Eileen McGrath.
