PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced on Monday, March 26, at the Cox Sports Rhode Island Basketball Media luncheon, that Providence College men's basketball junior guard Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the recipient of the Bill Reynolds Award as Men's Basketball Player of the Year. Council is the sixth Friar to be awarded the honor. Prior to Council, Marshon Brooks earned the honor in 2011.
Council, who registered nine double-doubles this season, led the Friars in scoring with 15.9 ppg and played a BIG EAST leading 38.7 minutes per game. He led the BIG EAST in assists for the second-consecutive season, as he averaged 7.5 assists per game. He also ranks fourth in the nation in assists per game. Council has dished out a career total 561 assists and is 101 shy of tying the Providence College record of 662 career assists, set by Ernie DiGregorio in 1973.
