Head Coach Tim Welsh On WEEI
March 15, 2006 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence men's basketball Head Coach Tim Welsh was a guest on WEEI's Dale and Holly on Monday, March 13. The trio talked for more than 15 minutes about hoops including the NCAA Tournament and former Friar and current Boston Celtics standout Ryan Gomes. The entire interview is available online at WEEI.com or by clicking here. Providence men's basketball finished up the 2006 season with a 12-15 record including a 5-11 mark in BIG EAST play. In addition, senior captain Donnie McGrath, led the Friars in scoring averaging 15.1 points per game, and was named to a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection. McGrath finished his stellar career as PC's 17th all-time leading scorer with 1,282 points. He also ranks first all-time at PC in three pointers (274), games started (117), and minutes played (4,128). Freshman forward Geoff McDermott and freshman guard Sharaud Curry earned Big East All-Rookie Team honors, marking the first time ever PC has had two freshmen earn the honor in the same season. The Friars finished the season with a 9-7 record at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Five of PC's seven home losses came against teams ranked in the top-10. The Friars played the 19th toughest schedule in the nation, including 11 games against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament. In addition, PC played five games against teams that were selected for the NIT. Overall, 16 of the Friars 27 games were against squads that participated in post-season play.
