Ryan Gomes was named USBWA All-District 1.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on Tuesday, March 11 that Providence College sophomore forward Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) was named to the United States Basketball Writers Association All-District 1 Team.

Gomes, who also earned Second Team All-BIG EAST and Second Team NABC District 1 honors this season, has been the Friars' top player in 2002-03. Gomes has recorded 15 double-doubles in 29 games. He also has scored 20 or more points in a game 15 times this season. Gomes leads the Friars in scoring (18.6 ppg) and rebounding (9.7 rpg).

The Friars, 16-13 (8-8), posted a 1-1 record at the BIG EAST Tournament on March 12-13. PC defeated West Virginia (73-50) in the first round and was defeated by fifth-ranked Pittsburgh (67-59) in the quarterfinals.
