Nate Watson Named To BIG EAST All-Rookie Team And Kyron Cartwright Earned Honorable Mention All-BIG EAST

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced on Sunday, March 4 that Providence freshman center Nate Watson (Arlington, Va.) was named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team and senior guard Kyron Cartwright (Compton, Calif.) earned All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention accolades. Watson becomes the first Friar named to the league's All-Rookie Team since LaDontae Henton earned the honor in 2012 and the 13th Friar all-time to be named to the All-Rookie squad.

Watson is averaging 6.7 points per game and 2.0 rebounds per game. He has made 81 of 134 field goal attempts this season and is shooting 60.4 percent from the field. He has made 49 of 70 shots from the free throw line for a 70 percent average. On December 31, Watson recorded a season best 20-point performance at Creighton. He was 7-11 from the field and 6-7 from the free-throw line.

For the second consecutive season, Cartwright has led the BIG EAST in assists in overall and conference play, averaging 5.8 apg. He also is averaging 11.4 ppg and 3.0 rpg. He has registered 623 assists in his career at Providence. Cartwright is just the third player in Friar history to register 600 career assists. He ranks third all-time in assists at Providence (trails Vincent Council 725 assists and Ernie DiGregorio 662 assists). Cartwright (Compton, Calif.) scored his 1,000th career point in the Friars' loss to Seton Hall on February 21. Cartwright has scored 1,042 points in 132 career games. He ranks 45th all-time in scoring at Providence.

The Friars, 19-12 and 10-8 in BIG EAST action, return to play on Thursday, March 8 versus Creighton (21-10, 10-8) in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Friars are in search of their third BIG EAST title (1994 and 2014) and fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
