PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Weyinmi Efejuku scored 21 points and Sharaud Curry contributed 19 points and six assists in Providence's 77-68 win over Holy Cross Tuesday.

Geoff McDermott added 11 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists for the Friars (8-2).

Tim Clifford scored 21 points for the Crusaders (6-4), while Keith Simmons had 20, including 16 in the second half.

Holy Cross trailed 46-45 after a putback by Simmons five minutes into the second half. But Providence went on a 26-9 run during the next nine minutes, with Curry leading the way with 12 points and Brian McKenzie making successive 3-pointers.

Curry's free throw extended the lead to 76-59 with four minutes left.

Clifford scored 16 points in the first half, including nine in the final minutes before intermission to keep the Crusaders within 11, 38-27 at halftime.

Providence made 53 percent of their shots in the first half, compared with 32 percent by the Crusaders.


 

 

Providence forced 20 turnovers overall, including 16 in the second half.

Providence now leads the all-time series between the two New England schools 40-28.
