Men's Basketball Defeated By No. 3/4 Kentucky

    BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Providence College Friars were defeated by the No. 3/4 Kentucky Wildcats, 79-65, on December 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Friar senior guard Bryce Cotton (Tucson, Ariz.) scored a game-high 23 points and shot 5-9 from three-point territory to lead the team.

    In the first half, Kentucky built a 10-point lead (23-13) with 9:52 left in the half. The Friars then went on a 22-12 run and evened the game at 35-35 with 2:17 left in the half. Cotton fueled the run with 13 points, including three, three pointers. The Wildcats finished the half with consecutive field goals to enter halftime with a four-point lead, 39-35. In addition to Cotton's 13 points, senior Kadeem Batts (Boston, Mass.) added five points and five rebounds.

    In the second half, Kentucky built its lead to double digits as the team shot 68.8 percent from the field for the half and 64.3 percent for the game. Cotton continued to lead the Friar offense as he scored 10 points over the final 20 minutes of the game.

    Sophomores Tyler Harris (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Josh Fortune (Hampton, Va.) each added 10 points for the Friars. Batts finished with eight points and eight rebounds.

    James Young scored 18 points to lead the Wildcats.

    The Friars will return to action on Thursday when they play at Rhode Island at 8 p.m.
