PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Erron Maxey scored 19 points to lead Providence over Boston University 85-70 Tuesday.

Abdul Mills added 17 points and Donte Wade scored 11 for Providence (3-3), which shot 56 percent (30-54) for the game, including 59 percent (16-27) in the second half.

Boston University (0-4) was led by Dereck Franklin with 14 points. Jean Avebe had 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds and Matt Turner added 12 points for the Terriers.

Boston University closed to within five, 46-41, on a layup by Mike Costello with 14:23 left in the second half. But the Friars responded with a 14-2 run, sparked by seven points from Maxey. The Friars never led by less than 14 points the rest of the way.

The Friars took a 37-30 halftime lead as John Linehan scored eight points on 3-of-6 shooting, including two 3-pointers. The Friars hit 7-of-15 3-pointers in the first half, and finished 10-of-20 from 3-point range for the game.
