The Providence College men's basketball team defeated Holy Cross, 61-42, on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. Providence improved its record to 5-2 and brought its home win streak up to five straight for the season.
The Friars started the first half strong defensively as they forced the Crusaders into seven turnovers, including multiple offensive charges. As junior Bryce Cotton (Tucson, Ariz.) has gotten comfortable at the point guard position, he also has filled in as the leading scorer. Cotton came into tonight's game leading the team and the BIG EAST in scoring. Cotton had 10 points and five assists during the first half, including a four-point play leading to the Friars' largest lead of the half. Coach Ed Cooley put together a play placing junior Kadeem Batts (Powder Springs, Ga.) under the basket for an easy layup. The basket put Providence up 30-19.
It was all about Cotton during the second half. He had 15 of the Friars' first 20 points to open the second half, and finished the game with 27 points. Sophomore LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) recorded his third double-double of the season and the 12th of his career. Henton finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Josh Fortune (Hampton, Va.) finished with a career-high eight assists.
Holy Cross scored just 42 points, which was the lowest score for the Crusaders against the Friars since February 19, 1935. The Crusaders were held to 24 points in that game. The Friar's next home game will be Saturday, Dec. 1, against Mississippi State at noon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. as part of the BIG EAST/SEC Challenge.
