PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team (4-1) defeated the University of Vermont (2-2) by a score of 106-64 on Tuesday, Nov. 24 in a non-conference match-up at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Junior guard/forward Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) paced the Friars with 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while sophomore Jamine Peterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 20 points and five rebounds.

It marked the first time since Jan. 28, 2009 in the 100-94 win over Syracuse that PC eclipsed the 100-point plateau. The Friars were bolstered by a hot shooting night in which the team connected on 15 of 27 3-point attempts (55.6 percent).

Providence played extremely well defensively, making 19 steals and forcing 23 Vermont turnovers. The 19 steals were the most by a Friar team since December 21, 2004 when PC made 23 steals against Maine. Brooks led the team with five steals, while freshman guard Duke Mondy (Grand Rapids, Mich.) added four for PC. The Friars held a 33-13 edge in points off turnovers and a 41-22 advantage in bench scoring.

The Friars took an early 7-2 lead behind five points from sophomore forward Jamine Peterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.). A long 3-pointer from junior Kyle Wright (Hartford, Conn.) gave PC a 12-6 advantage and a trey Mondy extended the lead to 26-13 at the 8:54 mark of the first half, capping a 13-2 run by the Friars.

A 3-pointer by senior guard Brian McKenzie moved Providence ahead 33-15 and marked the fifth made 3-point field goal in the Friars' first six attempts (83.3 percent). Back-to-back treys by Brooks and freshman guard Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) extended the Friars hot streak and gave the team a 21-point lead at 43-22 with 4:05 to go in the session. A 3-pointer at the buzzer by Mondy was a fitting end to the half and propelled the Friars to a 30-point lead (56-26) at intermission.

Providence shot a sizzling 60.0 percent from 3-point territory in the half, connecting on nine of 15 attempts. The nine triples tied a PC season-high for threes in a half and the team's 56 points was the most in a half by the Friars since the team scored 57 second-half points against Villanova on February 4, 2009. Brooks paced Providence with 17 points in the stanza.

PC picked up where it left off in the second half, as two quick 3-pointers by Peterson extended the team's lead to 40 at 74-34 four minutes into the half. The Friars took their largest lead of the game at 47 at 101-54 with 3:57 remaining in the game.

Wright had a solid night for Providence, posting a career-high 13 points to go along with six rebounds. McKenzie added nine points and three rebounds for the Friars.

The Friars remain at home for a Thanksgiving weekend matchup against Boston College on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Tickets for the game can be purchased at Friars.com or by calling (401) 865-GOPC.
