Providence Defeats Brown, 73-63
Nov. 22, 1999 PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Erron Maxey scored a game-high 15 points, half of them in a decisive rally, as Providence came back from an 8-point second-half deficit to beat Brown 73-63 Monday night. Maxey also led all rebounders with a career high 18. Marcus Jefferson scored 12 points as seven of 10 players scored 8 points or more in a balanced attack for the Friars (1-1). Travis Brown had 12 points and Josh Meyer had 11 for visiting Brown (0-1), playing its first game under new head coach Glen Miller. The Bears took their biggest lead, 54-46, with 9:13 to go on two foul shots by Omari Ware. But Maxey then took over, scoring 9 points in sparking the Friars to a 27-9 run over the rest of the game. Brown was held to just one field goal during the final run. The Friars outrebounded Brown 47-30 over the game. Providence struggled in the first half, but took a 37-31 lead into intermission behind Romuald Augistin's 9 points, coming on 3-for-3 shooting, including two 3-pointers. The Bears went ahead for the first time on a layup by Brown with 13:04 to go.
