Men's Basketball Defeats Stonehill, 91-55, In Final Exhibition Tuneup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team defeated Stonehill College by a score of 91-55 in the Friars' final exhibition contest on Saturday, November 7 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Junior guard/forward Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) led the Friars for the second-consecutive exhibition contest with 21 points, while sophomore forward Jamine Peterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Behind good ball movement and an effective pressure defense, the Friars used an early 19-2 run to take a 21-6 lead eight minutes into the game. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Peterson gave PC a 32-12 lead at the 9:26 mark of the first half and Brooks followed with eight-straight points for the Friars to move the lead to 22 at 42-20 with 6:36 left in the half. PC entered intermission holding a 50-30 advantage. The Friars shot an impressive 54.5 percent (18-33) in the opening half, including a 56.3 mark (9-16) from 3-point territory. Brooks led PC with 14 first-half points. Providence opened the second half much like the first, using a 15-1 run to take a 65-31 lead, capped off by an alley-oop from Brooks to Peterson. A 3-pointer by freshman Duke Mondy (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and a short jumper by freshman Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) extended the Friar lead to 35 at 74-39 and Providence took its largest lead at 85-41 on a jump shot by Mondy with 4:27 left in the game. The Friars enjoyed a 52-to-29 advantage in rebounds for the contest and posted 10 blocks to the Skyhawks' 3. Mondy added 15 points for PC on 5-of-7 shooting. Providence opens the regular season in the World Vision Invitational on November 13-15 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
