Men's Basketball Defeats One World All-Stars, 78-72
Nov. 4, 2000 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's basketball team opened it season by defeating the One World All-Stars, 78-72, in an exhibition game on Saturday, November 4 at the Providence Civic Center. Sophomore Abdul Mills (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Friars with a team-high 17 points, including 11 in the second half. Senior Erron Maxey (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) also played a strong game for PC, registering 15 points and grabbing nine rebounds. The Friars started the game off strong and led by seven points with 6:51 remaining in the first half before the One World All-Stars came to life. Led by Mike Campbell's 14 first-half points, One World entered halftime with a 39-37 lead. The One World All-Stars' strong play continued in the second half as P.G. Greene made a lay up with 13:13 remaining in the game to make the score 58-44 and give the squad its biggest lead of the night at 14 points. However, Mills spearheaded the Friars' comeback with 11 points in the final 13 minutes of play. The team took a 68-66 lead on a basket by Sheiku Kabba (Bronx, N.Y.) with 3:21 remaining and never trailed again. Campbell finished with a game-high 20 points to lead the All-Stars. Providence returns to action on Saturday, November 11 in the team's final exhibition game against USDBL at the Providence Civic Center at 7:30 p.m.
