Box Score vs. Carleton
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s basketball team was defeated by Carleton University (77-67) in an exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. The Friars fell to 1-1 in exhibition play on the season and post a 70-40 mark in all-time exhibition action. Last season, the Friars defeated Carleton, 87-69 in an exhibition contest.
Makai Ashton-Langford (Worcester, Mass.) led the Friars with 20 points.
To open the first period, Isaiah Jackson (Gainesville, Fla.) put the Friars on the board first just over a minute into the game (18:45) to give the Friars a 2-0 advantage. The Ravens quickly countered 30 seconds later to even the game and take the lead on a jump shot from Munis Tutu, 4-2 (17:41).
Emmanuel Owootoah netted the first shot from beyond the arc at 14:27 to increase the Ravens lead to 11-5.
Kyron Cartwright (Compton, Calif.) and Jackson combined on a fast break in the 9th minute to cut Carleton’s lead to five (11-16) (11:15). Nate Watson (Arlington, Va.) followed the combination play with an impressive block on the Ravens transition effort.
The Friars and Ravens traded baskets throughout the first stanza, the Ravens held a slight edge throughout the first. Carleton led by as many as 12 points at 8:49.
Providence trailed Carleton at the half, 33-39. TJ Lall led the Ravens with nine points while Makai Ashton-Langford led the Providence squad with 12 in the first half.
In the second half, Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) netted three consecutive layups to open the half to knot the score 39-39 at 18:51. Carleton responded with a pair of layups and a free throw to push the score to 42-39 (16:53).
Diallo led the Friar offense with 10-of-12 points in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.
Ashton-Langford netted seven consecutive points for the Friars to close the second half and totaled 20 points on the night.
The Friars will conclude exhibition action on Saturday, Nov. 4 against Baruch College in Providence, R.I. at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
